Hi Guys,

Bought the MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Boost Edition on this week only today.

Just reading some more info in benchmarks and stuff, and there are a few things that mention that the 7950 takes advantage of PCIe GEN3, so a GEN3 board and CPU is recommended... I don't currently have a GEN3 board, will this card still work? Am I losing a lot of performance without the GEN3 board? What kind of improvement would I see if I was to upgrade to GEN3 and Ivy Bridge, purely from the GPU perspective?

What CPU/Board do you have at the moment?

I'm rocking a MSI 7950 with a Phenom II x6 core 1055T, to be honest it maxes everything out. I will be upgrading to a i5/i7 haswell this year, but I really don't need to :)

Should be no problem and generally it is my understanding that as the bandwidth of Gen 2 is not fully used in any games yet there is no, practical, difference between Gen 2 and Gen 3.

One day maybe - but not yet.

Enjoy your new card :D

EXCITED :D, upgrading from a 560ti, so not sure it's going to be a HUGE leap, but thought I would do it now, while I can still resell the 560ti for ~80 notes

I upgraded from a 5850 to my 7950 and it was the best upgrade I could do. The i7 2600k is a fantastic CPU still, I wouldn't upgrade if it were me :)

Am horrified !!! :(

Your running the 2600k at stock ??

Get clocking - 4ghz at least.:D

Depends ,largely, upon the resolution your running as to wether you will notice a big improvement; then again if you have been unable to use all the pretties at your current res. you should be able to max out a few (if not all)more:)

with just one 7950 running at pci-e 2.0 you will not notice any difference between pci-e 3.0... running 2x 7950 you will have 1% diference :P

so don't worry, you will be fine.

Sorry I just cut/paste them model numbers from my reciept, ive got the 2600k clocked at 4.4ghz! :D i'm running everything at 1920x1080 atm, but looking at a UltraSharp U2713HM 27" for 1440p, maybe... lol

I bought the DGM 27" 1440p

Upgraded the 470 (Arctic cooled to 480 speed) to the Asus Top 7950.

New screen gave me/gives me :D:):D:):D:):D:):D:) every time I use it

And I needed the 7950 to run it.(which it does).

Glad to hear that your punishing the 2600k , somewhat

I'm slightly put off with the Dell at the moment, as there are lots of reports of problems with backlight bleed, buzzing, etc... so not sure what to do...

If you can get a 'good' DGM and fix it to the wall (negating the problem stand) they are somewhat a bargain - partic when on offer at under £300 , which I do believe comes up every now and then.:)

how does that work with Dell? If I have a defect, will they ship a replacement before I ship it back? What is classed as a defect? Buzzing, dead pixel etc?

I am afraid that I have 'zero' experience in how Dell deal with problems ; although my belief is , 1st class.
Would suggest that you do a google and look through the monitor forums here.

I mentioned DSR simply because of the fact that you can return for no reason at all i.e. wether covered by warranty/returns policies or not (You do have to pay the postage though:( unless there is a fault.)

Ah ok, might be worth looking at then... thanks again! :)
