Hey , i received my 7950 ( HSI iceq turbo ) today in the mail , although it was my first graphics card installation everything was done fast and easy

however i have a few questions to ask .

as this is my first card i installed myself other than install the drivers what should i do to keep everything running optimal ,

in addition im considering overclocking the card as after testing multiple games its maxed out at 66 Celsius, how would be the best way of overclocking this card? i have evga precision but i don't want to take any un-needed risks atm ( never oc'd my card before )

thanks in advance

Luis

Simplest way is to set a small overclock in CCC without touching anything like voltages.

Go into Overdrive, up the power to 20% up the clocks to anywhere between 1000-1050, mem 1400-1500 (depends on your card), and test in Heaven benchmarking to make sure its stable. Then try BF3 (if you have it) as its much more picky! Leave the fan at auto and keep an eye on the temps. If they get too high you can load iTurbo that comes with the card and set up a custom fan profile to keep them down.

But you do need to oc, makes a massive difference to FPS from stock!

" make sure its stable" in the situation it isnt stable what would happen ?

also if it might help im currently running borderlands 2 maxed out at full settings 1920:1080 at 170+ fps , ofc thats not a demanding game but the temps of that are only 61 celsius

i do have battlefield but havent played much of it but my card hits 60 fps unless im in a large open area where it drops to 50.

As far as stable goes you'll get artifacts, display driver crashes or the heaven benchmark will lock up and stop working, it's those kinds of things I've found. Often that's ok but running bf3 will see lockups, hence why it seems to be a good test once heaven is ok.

Fps in bf3 depends on settings but will take a dive if its trying to do big spaces/explosions/smoke etc.

I run my xfire his boost 7950s and see 50 to 60 fps on ultra settings, tho I'm running 6000x1200 eyefinity so not indicative of single screen....

It's not really temp related, not enough power for the core and memory speed you set will be where you notice the issues. And its then you keep backing off the speeds till you find one thats ok. But also try and keep temps under 70-75, seems to be what most on here say....

alright , i think what i will do is see how the stock fps is on the games i mainly play and if i feel the need to i will go into oc'ing the card. thanks for the help anyway :)
