7950 vs 660 ti

It was on special Rusty and the WF is way overpriced- I might as well just get the 7970OC on special today for £30 extra and slap my Extreme cooler on it(as MSI don't bother about cooler removal).
Maybe I'll give CS a note and ask them if I can swap it for the MSI 7970, however, I doubt that will resolve the Spore issue, at the end of the day I can live without Zerocore(although it's a poor show that it doesn't work).
Matt, the WF lasted 24hrs, it got returned faulty.
OT, Is the AK maps any good?
Had a quick shot the other night of Alborz but there was hardly anyone playing.
Do you sort out campers/base rape/heavily one sided teams on your server mate?

Armoured Kill is great, you should pop on our server and join us on voice comms for a round.
Yeah we have a clear rule set which is displayed on screen in the form of a yell to ensure everyone abides by the rules. Of course there will always be rule breakers but we clamp down on that as soon as we can.
We also have a balancing tool to sort the teams by skill level at the end of each round. So if one side gets pwned the next round should be more balanced.

925MHz and doesn't 'de-boost' at all manju.
Zerocore doesn't work, either the fan ramps up fasteror when it does work, it won't wake up resulting in a hard shutdown.
Zerocore is absolutely garbage IMO tbph, whether it only works on reference boards or not that's 2 cards in my system that never worked and a 7870 TF in a separate system that zerocore doesn't work.
The 7970 WF that I had never worked either, it woke up but the fans constantly stop-started.
How is your fan?
I'm asking because although it's quiet, it's louder than my PC@idle.
This is a huge issue for me, the WF cooler was silent@idle, louder on load but both of them aren't too agresively loud under load.
I must stress though, that my PC is extremely quiet@desktop, the only thing you can hear is a very slight hum from the pump, you can't hear any fan noise at all as the venoms on the radiator are spinning very, very slow.
There is also a very annoying grate to it, it's not loud, but it's very noticeable on the desktop, on the first day, my excitement of a new toy dismissed it, but after a few hours sitting next to the PC last night, it was doing my **** in.
The icing on the cake though is Spore keeps crashing, where as the 6950>70 is stable.
I realise it's Spore, but that is without a doubt, the most played title on my PC as my son loves the world building in GA.
This could be the ultimate deal breaker for me as I'm not taking all the moaning from my boy.
Gaming on 3D has gave me quite a boost on the titles that didn't like CrossFire in Tridef, so that's a bonus I suppose, on normal gaming I've had a drop in every other title bar Skyrim(heavily modded).
Hope your enjoying yours manju as, despite my gripes, it's a good solid card(when you take Spore out of the equation).
Pity another one could be going back to OcUK, the WF was gubbed though.
Tha Vapor X is silent upto a 45% fan profile, after which it starts becoming audiable. When running unigene I can't hear it. But in order to keep the card cool (by raising the fan eye profile) when overclocking it gets loud and I mean LOUD!
Either it's the luck of the draw or engineering samples were selected by reviewers but these outstanding overclocks don't seem to be happening. Whether it's these silly dual bios' that are doing something I don't know.
I just don't know whether to risk getting a 7950 Windforce or an EVGA FTW /Windforce 670.
The IceQ is getting DSR'd, pita but needs to be done, I would only crack up about the noise over time and my head would come off much worse than the wall.
I bought the same one as you matt, I got the last one on offer this morning, if it isn't fine, I'm buying a PS3 n chucking it with the PC.
You have to weigh up the pros n cons, do you swap it and take the chance/hassles with other problems or do you just keep what you have?
I'm about to go on my 3rd try and it's becoming a right pita...

I'll see how I get on Rusty, if it's genuinely silent@idle then that will do for me as I'm only gaming at night now with earphones or in an empty the odd day with speakers.
If not then there's always an option of an AC Extreme, it wasn't an option on the IceQ due to the ram placement on their custom board-but I already new that by looking at PCB pics prior to buying.
I just thought it would be quieter than what it is@idle(in my rig) as the WF was inaudible in my rig@idle, the trade off being louder in game.

Its silent at idle, and if not you can tweak the fan profile like i did. I think i have the fan at 10% when idle and i can't hear it at all. Default might be 20% i think.
I'd consider the fan quiet up to 50%.
Bit late I know but would recomend the Asus 7950 - It's a bit expensive at the mo , it was a bit cheaper when I bought , but the noise levels are really good.
I only ever hear it when gaming and when I listen for it .Idle is silent.
The Toms hardware review of 6 7950's section where you can listen to the various cards reviewed I found very helpful as rather than db tables, being able to listen gave a real idea as to what they sounded like.

I tried lowering the IceQ fan@stock, but although it got quieter the grate was still evident, plus the fan would spin up and down quite aggressively once every 90 seconds or so, it could have been correcting stalling.

Thanks but when the price gets close to a reference 7970, then the 7970's the winner for me, I have a spare Extreme cooler sitting around now, if noise is an issue, no doubt it's getting slapped on.
