7950 VS 7970 after overclocking.

I'm eyeing up the 7970 at the moment but the 7950 is a lot cheaper. After both of these have been overclocked does the 7950 come close to the 7970? Or does the 7970 clock good aswell?
 
They both clock to around the same levels, depending on the silicon lottery and your cooling etc. The 7950 is around 5% slower at the same clocks.
 
They are limited typically to 1150 core in the CCC, but most people disable CCC over clocking and use trixx or afterburner, which typically give you up to 1300mhz and up to 1.3v which is plenty believe me :)
