I am wondering about upgrading my crossfire 5850s to a 7950 or 7970 but I want to do some openCL based stuff on the cards as well and I am just wondering how a the two cards compare when running at equal clock speeds?

If anyone happens to own both cards, would it be possible for you to try luxmark (gpu only) to see what the difference is?

Thanks for any advice.

Tested clock for clock@stock MSI 7970 OC clocks@1010/1375, rest of spec in sig.

Don't have a clue what the numbers mean, but there you go.

Good job Tommy!

The 7970 has four extra compute units. We like to laud this fact over our 7950 brothers from time to time just to remind them who the daddy is.

They retort with its not how many compute units you've got, its how you use them.

We reply with don't get me started on the shader units.

thanks a lot tommybhoy, it does look like a 7970 is worth the extra over a 7950 if being used for none gaming stuff as well, its about 10% faster which really adds up if left rendering stuff for 24hours+
