hey guys,

i need a new card pretty soon and i was looking at these two and cant really decide as they are both very very good and almost the same price, i have heard there are driver issues with ATI cards, i have never had one so im not sure, nvidias have always been very good im my book with more stable drivers, i have looked at a few reviews and seens in some tests the ATI is the faster of the 2, can anyone share any adive on these, i was looking at the 512mb 7950GT and the 256MB ATI X1900XT

Have you considered the 7900GTO? Currently on special offer at £158inc VAT and is only marginally slower than a 7900GTX.

The X1900XT will be faster no doubt. But if you still want to go for Nvidia, do what I've just done, and order the MSI GTO in the "This week only" section for 168 quid delivered. It will most probably go to GTX speeds which is a lot better than a 7950GT :)

Only at that price for today I think. Until they get in the office in the morning and change it :P

If you are after the ATI variety then the X1900XT will be more than capable of handling the latest games if not faster than the GTO, but people have commented that you will likely need 512mb version if you play above 1280*1024 resolution, which will however cost you almost another £100.

The x1900xt is definitely the better of the two cards you are looking at.

I think it is hard to recommend the 7950GT when in that price range the 7900GTO is also available.

Personally I went for the 7900GTO because it was cheaper at the weekend (£158), I'm more comfortable with Nvidia drivers and also it uses less power / produces less heat than the x1900xt. But they are both very good cards and it is down to personal preference which you go for - at stock the x1900xt IS slightly faster in quite a few games.

Cheers guys, think i might go with theGTO, any reports of them failing like the good old 7900GTs

I haven't heard any of that, I've read all good actually. My friend bought one and the fan didn't work but he got a new one right away which worked fine.
