Hi...

just bought a Dell XPS m1710 that was for sale on this forum...and have gone to download the latest graphics drivers of the NVidia website....when I select GForce 7 series GO...it gives me a message to go to the Dell support site...whch I did and got drivers.
I thought that with the mobile graphics cards that you could just install the latest Nvidia drivers..albeit if they were suitable for OP system and stuff. Nothing personal to Dell...but you dont really know what your using with their drivers. Can anyone confirm this. Also...anyone know the best performing driver for the 7950 GTX GO.

Thanks

for laptops always use the laptop vendor driver in 1st instance, or look out for beta drivers on laptop forums

I have an FX2500m in my M90 [arguably the same gpu] and I use a third party set of drivers from "g-force" IIRC

This is the problem with laptop GPU's in that you have to wait for the manufacturer of the laptop to release a driver. When they do, its normally always considerably older than the nvidia website.

Easily fixed though.

Head on over to www.laptopvideo2go.com

I'm currently using the latest 169.01 drivers with my Dell Vostro and 8600MGT.:)

The Dell driver is rubbish - I used one of the Laptop2go ones and had a massive boost (over 100% faster with Bioshock and Oblivion!!!) You have to use the right one though, always worth reading the forum section for each set - I'll dig out my version if you like - rock solid and works a treat for me ;) As Senture said though - you have got to choose the right one or it leads to nothing but tears!

I have this laptop and graphics card and would love to know what the best driver is for gaming cos theres so many !!!

Also is it possible to upgrade the card in these laptops , say to a 8XXX series ?

WEll... how silly do I feel - I can't for the life of me work out what drivers I'm using, neither Nvidia control panel, the Driver page in hardware properties, or DxDiag give me numbers that match the conventional driver numbers ???

Anyone know where I can find out what I'm running - I think it's 163.69, but I can remember which ones I went for in the end

With Vista installed I used the 163.69's that I was using also on my home computer...and never had any problems. But as Im trying to get as much performnace out of this laptop...and dont have a DX10 video card...Ive installed XP 32bit on it yesterday. Since then Ive tried the XP 163.69's and the 165.01's and they both crash the system at bootup. Ive installed the latest Dell one at the moment for th 7950GTX...but they are like YEARS OLD! Anyone know the best modded driver (that works) for that GPU on an M1710 for windows XP?
Cheers
