hi a mate recently bought a 7950gx2, he uninstalled his old gfx card drivers and has put it in his pc and it up and running but when he installs the latest driver it crashes and goes off windows and then wont boot into windows again, so he has to put his old card into it again, also now it keeps rebooting any ideas ? hes using a 2 year old mobo.

This is a strange one! I've never had any problems with mine - used it with the following kit:

Tagan 580 watt psu
Asus A8N32 SLi Deluxe and a DFI SLi DR
XP Pro as Vista is still not ideal for decent GX2 performance

Just make sure your friend has a psu that can cope and that his mobo has a decent PCI-E slot. 16x is required i believe since the SLi functionality of the GX2 needs 8x bandwidth for each of its two layers!

Hope you get it sorted!

Several things spring to mind ,Firstly the 7950GX2 is only compatible with certain mobo's & then they require certain bios's to be installed , you don't mention what mobo your mate has but first check the list over on Nvidia's site & see if his mobo is listed & he has the required bios , you can find the list HERE ,

The second thing that springs to mind is his PSU , the 7950GX2 is rather greedy when it comes to power requirements & if his PSU conldn't hack the power draw it could have damaged it trying hence now it can't even power his old card leading to constant rebooting.

thats his mobo and he has a 550watt psu

Sure that should work! Maybe get the most recent bios!

Marshy is right - there are some boards that don't like the card and that list does include boards compatible with it! But it is not exhaustive as i have run the GX2 on the boards i mentioned - the ASUS (on the list) and the DFI (not on the list). Just update that bios and see what happens!
