Are these cards better than X1950xtx's? ive been looking at some benchbarks and tests and it seems to have great fps maxing out most games, on about £260 on some sites, would one of these last a while at 1600x1000(or something like that) widescreen res?

The X1950XTX is in a legue of its own tbh. If you read custom pc magazine, a few issues back they tested the X1950XTX and it was holding its own against the 7950X2 considering its one single GPU unlike the 7950X2.

Better at some things, not so good at others. Very few people are thinking of buying these now the new 8800 series is out. Even £260 (which is cheap from what they were at) is a lot to pay for old technology

I dunno, its a fantastic card. Slaughters the XTX, I've had both btw and in the real world it's much faster, except Oblivion and its still a bit faster. As a bonus they overclock very well. For the right money and no plans to buy Vista, maybe?

so basicly i should get more vista compatible stuff? because im planning on getting vista just not right away.
A GX2 will work in Vista, just not in DX10. It'll run DX9 games just fine, most of the DX10 games will also support DX9. Personally I'd save a bit more and get a 8800GTS, similar speeds to a GX2, a single card with DX10 support if you get round to upgrading. Still, if you can get a GX2 cheap enough? DX10 games are a ways off.

I wouldn't get a card like the GX2 now, not when you can get new gen cards for not much more, and the GX2 slaughters the x1950, was an absolute load of bull that about the x1950 coming out and whooping the GX2, its no faster than an x1900 XTX, no wonder they wern't selling as everyone was buying the much cheaper x1900's for the same performance.

The x1950xtx (non-crossfire) isn't even remotely close to a GX2, except where the GX2 for some reason is only limited to using 1 card - which when properly setup should be never...

custome pc magazine *shudder* :o

I actually like custom PC even if some of the people who write it (and it is only some) are scary in their lack of knowledge and obliviousness to danger. I remember reading once how well opty 144's overclocked and the example they used put 1.9v through it on air! You dam right it overclocked, it was scared to death!

i can't coment comparing to the ati card but i recently had... and sold for a very reasonable £230 a gx2, i found it a very capable card at 1600x1200 with everything on on most games (tombraider was very sluggish with advanced features on but that was drivers i think) there were some problems with vista instalation... (didn't like sli) but i believe that has been solved and the only reason i upgraded is that i'm an upgrade adict! it is i believe the best singlecard solution (not counting the 8800)
