7950's on 7970 PCB

The PCB isn't black, it's brown :)
Apart from that, I'm not sure why you want that specific card with it's massive cooler when you're only going to take it off for a waterblock.
Since you can also stick a backplate on there, the pcb colour wouldn't really matter.

Ahhh yes brown. I want Asus as I prefer their GPUs but like you say its a waste with the huge cooler that I won't use but you can say that about any of them. Seen the v2 for 240.

Here is a random photo I found of my system from a while ago (my main desktop is currently at uni, so I only have my laptop to use from home) and it looks pretty much black, it is perhaps slightly brown when up close, but it is mainly black.
 
Newer revision of XFX Double D has the 7970 PCB. It is also one of the cheaper 7950s around.

However mine appears to be voltage locked to a certain degree - I can only up the voltage by 0.1v, which is annoying.
