Hi everyone, Been out the game with the forum for a long while and looking to upgrade my PC . I have been offered a 6 month 2nd hand unmolested 7950x3d for roughly the same price as a new 9900x which I was going to purchase. Now I don't know what to do. I just do gaming if that's helpful. I want to future proof for a while to save upgrading again for a while. What are your opinions?

Like I said I haven't been on the forum for long enough , so out of date with everything .. you can check my history on post etc. Still running a 3570k so that shows how out of touch I am.. lol.
ah haha, no worries dude, 7950x3d all day everyday, IMHO still the best AM5 cpu..... until the 9950x3d launches, if you can snag one ( less than a 9800x3d ) NO brainer........... 16 cores 32 threads, 16 threads with 3d vcache no contest

Ok.. thanks for the feedback.. much appreciated. I will look to purchase the 2nd hand offer..Hopefully start enjoying pc'ing again as my current setup is depressing me with games and tasks..

FYI:
- 7950X3D: 16 cores (8x8), with 3D cache.
- 9900X: 12 cores (6x6).

The X3D CPUs are generally much stronger for gaming than non-X3D CPUs, though it does depend on the game and the resolution, since not all games benefit to the same extent.

The 12 core CPUs are not ideal for gaming because of the 6x6 config, you're better off with 8 (or 8x8).

Both of those CPUs are overkill for just gaming really, I'd have been looking at the 7800X3D or 9800X3D if budget allows, or a 9700X. Though, the 7950X3D and 9900X are both very good productivity CPUs and the 7950X3D has the best of both worlds because of the 3D cache AND 16 cores for multithreading performance
