7970/50 Arctic Accelero Users

My card has been successfully RMA'd so now all I need to do is try to get the faulty accelero replaced. Failing that I'll either need a second hand accelero or to try and get a replacement fan unit. Fun times, I can see me having to buy another. :(

Hi did you have the msi 7970 oc? what happened to it for you to rma?

The fan stopped working, couldn't get the standard fan working either so god knows what happened. And yes it was the Msi.

You can get a replacement fan direct from AC in Hong Kong-takes between 11 and 14 days, the delivery was about £9 iirc.

Yeah I saw that but for the small price I can't help but think it's only a single fan and not the whole unit. I might just go for it anyway.

EDIT: Bugger it, just ordered a fan anyway. Now I can hack the fan up and If I get it working I'll be royally p***ed off and will have to order a whole accelero unit if not.

It's only a single fan, it's not the set of 3/shroud, maybe cancel it?

If both the AC and the stock blower doesn't spin, then it's probably the onboard fan power pin that's borked, gelid do a small gpu to standard 3 pin adapter that you could manually power the AC with instead with a fanmate/controller, way cheaper than a new unit.

Not to tempt fate, but from experience, the Extreme fans are bulletproof- running 2 of them for at least 2 years 24/7 and never skipped a beat with my 5870 Extremes.

I33th3tr33. Have you decided how to cool the vrm.'so? Are you going to stick with the standard Accelero one's or try one of the others in this thread?

Sticking with standard sinks, just want to get it up and running now.

Damn, well it's ordered now, the whole fan unit doesn't work, I've tried it on another psu and now I've even chopped the connectors off and rewired it to a 3 pin connector and it's still not working. Unless I can rewire the original connectors on and get it replaced then I'm going to either get another accelero or just go down the water route. I know water is a hell of a lot more expensive but it's where I want to end up anyway in the long run.

EDIT: well I've just strapped a few 80mm fans to the sink and I'll try it out when my card comes, if I don't get considerably better temps I'll try making a shroud and strap some 92mm fans on.

MATT - now that I've butchered the fans I doubt I'll be able to return it, so fire me your address and I'll get that G1 sent over this week.

l33th3tr33 Thanks for the offer but im sticking to the permanent adhesive as its possible to get it off but it provides a much firmer hold than G1. I'm over my G1 addiction. I did my time at G1 anonymous.

Anyway...

The notorious fiddler returns for a one off special. Staring myself as the fiddler and a small (that's what she said) cameo featuring Uncle Pete's Peter heat sinks. When Pete gave me these heatsinks he said he likes his heatsinks how he likes his men+coffee, strong and black.

Coming soon to a forum near you... VRM TEMPS OMGWTFBBQ!!

Ok, no worries Matt. I'm sure I'll be able to repay you somehow one day for helping me out.

On another note, the fans are apparently rated at 81 cfm. I take it that's all the fans combined and not each individual fan, right?

5c or so worse temps using the supposedly better Peter vrm sinks. I was shocked and appalled. Luckily i had just enough adhesive to refit back to my old setup which looks like this.

That is the best possible cooling setup you can have with the accelero. As you can see i have one peter heatsink on the final right vrm.

The accelero L shaped heatsinks are better because they provide more cooling surface area as far as i can tell. The grass is not always greener folks.

Hi Ltmatt, I've been having a fiddle to now.The lshaped sinks for the accellero seem a realy tight fit between the black blocks(think these are the chokes)and the small circuits the other side and almost in places seem to just catch the small circuits(the ones where you have to fit thermal tape) is this a safe fit? are yours missing the circuits and chokes and have you used extra insulation tape just incase.

Well spotted. Yes its a tight fit but it does fit safely. I lost one of my insulation strips (the second one on the right) but mine works ok. If you have two strips on the right and cut one small peice to protect the left vrm (top left) you will be fine.

A little update on the Peter results, chaps.

I put a couple of Scythe GT1850's on the bracket and mounted them underneath the cooler.
They did a lot better than I thought they would. They were only about a degree or two higher on the VRM's and about 4-6c higher on the core @1750rpm (max according to my readings) in both Heaven and Sleeping dogs benchmarks @1200/1600.
Original results in my sig :)

Just had an E-mail from AC, the 'spare fan' they have listed on their site for something silly like 4 dollars includes the shroud and all 3 fans. I've got one on order so I'll confirm this when I get it in a couple weeks. In total, it comes to around 13 quid inc. postage.

Hopefully this is useful to someone else.

Uncle petey how do you rate the adhesive that came with yours? I'm about to reseat my sinks. How long does the peter adhesive take to cure? I also have some Arctic permanent stuff & some thermal pads. I was thinking of using the pads for ram & permanent for vrm's?
What you reckon?

The arctic adhesive and the peter adhesive is the same stuff. Use the arctic stuff on the vrms, it will be provide a secure fit. I wouldn't bother with thermal pads. You should only use those if you're screwing a heatsink down on to the vrms.

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster. I just got my Accelero 7970 as well and I am wondering if my VRM temps are ok. They seem a bit hot. 30 minutes of Heaven on stock (MSI OC edition) and here my temps: GPU 1: 81C and 70C GPU 2: GPU 1: 81C and 70C GPU 2: 69C and 60C Do these temps sound ok to you guys? I hear they are rated differently per card, with some being ok until 120c. Do these temps sound ok to you guys? I hear they are rated differently per card, with some being ok until 120c.
