Hi.

I have a 6990 an was looking to trifire with a 6970.

Now the new 7970 has been announced, would it be possible to TriFire a 6990 with 7970?

Or.. do they have to be of the same family?

they have to be within the same family yeah, 6900 cant be paired with 6800, but you can have any combination of 6950, 6970 and 6990 if you want. And its always been like this so I assume it will be like that with the next generation. if only because the performance difference per chip is going to be quite big...
 
If you're going to tri-fire with a 6970 can you let me know what CPU you have. I have this tri-fire setup already on an i7 870 but wondering if I need to upgrade my CPU.
