Hi guys,

I currently own a 7970 windforce edition and was wondering if anyone had tried crossfire x with the now significantly cheaper 7950.

I notice the 7970's havn't really dropped at all.

After a long while trawling the web, I am unable to find any benchmarks of this setup.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Normally
7970 +7970 fastest
7970 + 7950
then 7950 + 7950

It basically means you get a little better performance mixing cards that way and its been true for previous generations. If crossfire works fine for you in the games you play that is.

It will down clock you 7970 to 7950 spec's so should run like 7950 xfire otherwise you will end up with microstutter

Yes, but it wasn't for long.

I had the IceQ 7950 but it was getting sent back due to a noisy cooler, before it went it happened to have a shot with a 7970.

It needs both bridges attached for CrossFire(I hope you kept your WF one handy) whereas normal CrossFire only requires one cable.

It works regardless of clock speeds/shaders, you can leave them be or oc them individually/match clocks if they can of course.

As the 7970 OC runs@1Ghz, I matched the clocks as the 7950 only needed +50MHz to achieve 1GHz and it ran on a Seasonic 750W with a 4.8GHz 2500K, 16Gb, 2 SSD's/2HD's, DVD-RW Fan controller with up to 6 120mm fans, and a bucket load of USB's attached.

Tick enable CrossFire and away it went, it's mental performance@1080p, seriously wasted imo.

It made me dribble, but, for me there was simply no need for the power they bring@1080p, if CrossFire worked in every title I play in 3D, then it would have been a different story(they all work in 2D), but since it tanks in about 5 titles out of this lot:

then it had to go back-but if that cooler wasn't audible@stock, I fear OcUK would never have got it back.;)

(No, I don't play all of the titles above, some were bought on a whim and never played again-not that anybody gives a ****:D)
