7970 a good upgrade?

Well lets see what I can get away with stock cooling... :)

Edit: I see you also have a stock 7970. Have you overclocked yours?

Yes, run it at 1150/1650 @ 1.2v using Trixx and unlocked CCC. Have had it up to 1230/1750 so far for benchmarking etc.

At my daily 1150, it's about 15fps on avg faster in BF3 than stock, never goes over 65ºc during games or benchmarks, idles at around 35ºc (room temp 21.6ºc)

That was the original one, they've decided to put the discount back up. Just ordered it myself. Cracking card for £348 including delivery. Admittidly, the 680 is a better card all around, but I'm not willing to pay the extra £60 to get it. At that price the 7970 feels justified

Im very jealous, i dont get paid til thursday, so hoping the deals still on. But to be fair, the price of most vanilla 7970's is dropping like Jordans keks right about now, very fast and often lol. So im looking forward to purchasing one very very soon. Then all i need is the xfx trip screen stand and im laughing

Ah very good. What's the fan noise like at those settings? Isn't 1150/1750 achieveable at stock voltage?
