7970 coil whine - return?

Bought a MSI 7970 a little while ago. Now Im more than happy with the card and the performance but the coil while is starting to drive me crazy! My old 5870 used to do it on certain game menus but this 7970 squeals like a pig in pretty much all games!

So is it possible to return a card becuase of the coil whine? Wasn't bought from Ocuk btw.

Yes return it. Coil whine is not something you should be expected to live with tbh.

This is the exact reason i went with a non reference card

You may be able to return it under DSR if you have had the product for less than 7 days. However as far as I know a retailer probably wouldn't accept a return for coil whine as it isn't a defect, the product still functions as intended.

PSU can be a contributing factor in some cases also.

The trouble it's fairly common with 7970 series, you could be RMAing a few cards before you get a silent one.

I can tolerate a bit of whine, as I said my previous 5870 used to do it at time but this is constant when gaming and much louder

RMA it. i had 2 7970 Sapphire cards that had terrible coil whine
I now have a 7970 Lightning and its whisper quiet

You'll eventually get used to the sound and won't notice it, not worth RMA IMO, especially if you have speakers.

Not gonna be able to get a sound clip without faffing which i cant be bothered with right now but its basically like the above video but a higher pitch and the tone varies lots when gaming which makes it even more noticable
