7970 compatibility question.

Hi Guys,

I've got what was a top dog rig in 2009 and I finally want to make an upgrade.

Current components are:
Asus P6T mobo
Corsair TX850w PSU
Radeon 5870
i7 920 running at 4.0ghz

I'd like to replace the 5870 with a 7970 Ghz Edition, but these days do not know if it is compatible with my 2009 mobo and PSU (enough power connectors? PCIE 3.0? etc)

You have enough power and it will work..

It would work a bit (not enough to notice) better on a PCI-E 3.0 board..

I'd go for it..

Not losing much atall..(i know it's the 680, not the 7970 but give you an idea)

One last question. If I go for the 7970 Ghz Edition, will my i7 920 running at 4.0ghz be bottlenecked by it for gaming?

I have an i7 860 at 3.8GHz and a standard 7970 overclocked a fair bit and it doesn't seem to be bottlenecking on the games that need the graphical grunt like project cars. I havent tested this properly though, it's just the impression I'm getting
