Just a heads up to people this may apply to. I got 2x 7970's and suffered some weird 'flickering' on the bottom part of the screen when in windows and games that didn't utilise a lot of GPU (Quake Live, for instance). I happened when moving windows and sometimes when scrolling in steam, chrome etc. It turns out it's some kind of legacy bug that was fixed on much older generation cards where the cards were running with too little voltage/clock in 2d mode. I editted profiles.xml in Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE and every line that has want_0 i bumped up the settings a bit. I think from 30000 for the idle click to 50000. There were 5 lines like this in total. After i upped the values i rebooted and the problem went away. I've not seen anyone complaining of this issue on this forum but thought i'd give you a heads up.

I've had the same issue on my 5870 Xfire setup only when using 2 monitors or more at the same time.

Was resolved by upping the 2D voltages as suggested.

I would have thought that AMD would have fixed this issue with their new graphics cards : /

Those are exactly the problems i had. Artefacting near windows taskbar. High FPS games are definitely a trigger, such as quake live and source games. The tweaks to the profiles.xml fixed it but it's irritating to not have a driver fix. AMD need to get their finger out.
