Will another HD 7970 matrix platinum fit well with my current one on the 990FX R2 mobo?

The motherboard will be able to run it 2 of those cards the problem however will be your case.. Coming from 2 7950 in crossfire i can tell you there is no cpu that match that board that will be able to take 100% advantage of 2 7970 in crossfire.

Regardless, a performance increase would be good.
