Hello all,
I'm wondering if anyone has run into this curious bug. I have an MSI 7970 Twin Frozr OC BE which runs a Tahiti XT core, so I decided to cross flash it into an MSI Gaming Edition 280x using the BIOS found here:
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=255507.0
The cross flash worked perfectly, all temperature read outs were fine etc. Benched it in furmark and heaven for a bit and everything was normal, even played some DIRT3 for a couple of hours.
However, I've encountered a problem: I use the Windows 7 "sleep" button (S3 suspend), and when my PC came out of sleep the card would cause Catalyst to crash when switching to 3D clocks.
I've investigated a bit and GPU-Z reports that coming out of sleep MVDDC gets moved from 1.5v -> 1.6v... this isn't the problem though, the problem is that VDDC is stuck at around 0.9v and doesn't move up when the clocks do, causing the card to crash the driver. Lowering the clock speed to 900mhz keeps the driver stable in 3D clocks.
Once sleep has occurred once nothing resolves the problem... I've rebooted and without even going back into sleep GPU-Z reports the 1.6v MVDDC and low VDDC values. I've re-installed the driver and the same occurs.
Somewhat more curiously was that I installed the 280x gaming UEFI bios from the link above over the top of the legacy bios, and it worked perfectly as well until I put Windows into sleep mode then displayed the same symptoms. Now re-flashing either of those BIOSs makes the problem occur at boot.
The 7970 BIOS works fine and doesn't do any of this stuff, the 280x UEFI bios would have been nice to have though for fast boot.
Does anyone know of a 280x bios that works on a 7970 Frozr OC BE, or how to get around this problem?
Thanks!
TL : DR Flashed 7970 to 280x, put PC into S3 sleep mode once, upon resuming card will not raise VDDC when moving to 3D clocks causing driver crash. Reboot / Driver Reinstall / Re-Flash doesn't stop this behaviour, and it occurs right from boot. Anyone know of a good 280x BIOS for 7970 frozr?
