7970 Installation Probs

I'm having no luck installing my 7970, tried sweeping old drivers on vista just kept failing. Card runs fine it sees a standard vga card but just would not install the drivers.

So I install Win 7 on a brand new SSD and try installing the Preview beta drivers but same thing it 'analyses' for ages and at the end says installation finished there were errors with installation.

Its in a system with a 550w Corsair PSU, Q9550 CPU, 4gb DDR 800mhz, Asus commando 775 Board.

Try a different pcie slot?

Yeah same for both, wierd thing just happened I shut the pc down and the psu fan continued for 20secs, 550w corsair should be doing the job ok right?

Aha at last! Ok I run driver cleaner again no nvidia or ati drivers at all and run the drivers from the ati website (not the 12.1's) and worked

550 should be 'ok', 500 is the minimum requirement iirc.

Edit : I'm glad you're getting somewhere now.

Yep...only driver for the 7970 at the moment are either the ones in the box, or the newer ones posted on the AMD site (when you go through selecting the 7000 series).
Cat 12.1 (or 12.1a) do not work and only try to install the manager software etc etc.
