Currently I use msi afterburner to overclock with, I use the OSD when playing to monitor temps etc. but it only reports VRM and Mem temps.

Shouldn't I be able to report VRM 1 and VRM 2? I've tried gpu-z and hwinfo64 and neither report VRM temps am I missing something, or is the Mem temp the other VRM temp? Confusing I no somebody correct me if I'm being dum.

The only thing that will monitor a 7970 Lightning correctly is MSI afterburner.

It will give you a temp read out for VRM, Memory & Core, iirc all VRM banks (large bank for core and single bank for memory) fall under the same monitor so no VRM1 & VRM2 with this card :)

Thanks for that, that's a massive help mate so I just need to watch that 1 VRM temp that's a lot easier. That's good because at 1200core with 1.28mlv and 1650 Mem at 1.63mlv the core never goes much above 60c and the VRM and Mem never really go above 55c that's at a fan profile of 55% so I'm guessing I'm looking good on temps.

Yep, the VRM usually stays withing 5-8c of the core temp on a Lightning, sounds like you have a little room to push a touch more out of it too

Didn't realise the voltage was that high on the BE, 1.3v so you think this should be reachable and safe to run with a good overclock while gaming?

Yep just make sure to keep an eye on temps and make sure everything is stable. Lightnings were made for overclocking
