7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

THOU SHALT NOT PRAISE THY FROSTED BLASPHEMY

:p

If it helps cleee, EK only released Acetal revisions for the 7970 DCUII...we might not even see plexi blocks.

Though as it was OcUK that gave EK the nudge to make the blocks in the first place I would presume they at least hinted for some plexi...

made no.5 in heaven thread, woot!!!
after doing lots of testing and not being sure with the card i am now 100% happy, used to get old glitch and random crashes in BF3 and blamed this on the card and it was the rest of the system not being stable even though no settings were changed since i took out my 280gtx. If anything i have made it faster, tweeked a few bits and now with the card its all 100% balanced and stable.
2500k@4636MHz
ram @1648 with 9-9-9-24 1t
lightning@1130/1550
only thing i have had to drop in bf3 is AA to 2x and hbao to sbao, very smooth with v good fps.
So, happy now and i know next time not to judge so hastily and to post random threads!!!

Any eta on that block yet?

'Soon' is all we have thats concrete from EK, the ref PCB 670 blocks are due first, swiftly followed by the Lightning blocks. So at a guess, when we see 670 blocks we will see Lightning blocks.

You never know, I might have enough cash for a second card before the blocks are out :p

Was it mid june or july originally?? I'd love another but water kit first then new 27" dell ips, then i think i'm gonna need another one to keep framrates up ;)

It was originally penned in for 'early June' release, was then told (in late may) that the block will suffer a short delay (due to 670) and should be available in 3-5 weeks, which points the finger at around late June/early July release.

Also we have OcUK (more directly probably rjkoneil) to thank for EK actually making the lightning blocks, as it was OcUK with help from MSI that sent EK a Lightning card and gave them a nudge that these cards need water to shine. As a result I would expect OcUK to be first to market with these blocks too, which is good news for us :D

Nice, we look forward to seeing your results

Me too :D

Still waiting to hear back from MSI as to at what point voltages/temps become too much for water and enter LN2 only territory. See if we can break that 1400 core mark ;)

Should have enough radiator room to handle it. 360 + 1080

That's even worse!

If that happens I don't plan on buying from EK for some time to come...

Sorry I was confused, I didn't know what I was thinking!

:p

Slightly off topic but still linked to OP, would a 360+240 be enough to cool cpu + gpu??

Res>pump>360>gpu>240>cpu>res, would this be ok??

More than enough raddge, as for loop order as long as it starts with res>pump the rest doesn't make much odds.

Everything under 60c for me

Edit: just had a reply from Msi about voltages, said I need to directly contact the European arm of their buisness who should also provide me with a copy of afterburner extreme.

All 3, the vrm and memory temps are usually around 5c lower than core temp, it can spike over 60c, but atm it's about 7c outside so have a low ambient temp.

Ahhh okay that clears up a few things for me, thanks. I wish my cards ASIC rating was lower! Seems like all the 83% and above cards are super unstable when trying to reach 1300/1800

Cant get mine stable past 1208 with an ASIC of 67.5% and my vrm temps between 5-9 lower than core.
Are we any wiser with thermal limits for these cards or are we still waiting for those dam waterblocks!!??
Anyone else passed 1325 on volts yet?? I just get a lockup but temps still fine......
