7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

"The card is currently under going stress testing, at the moment it is in furmark, and even in this the max temperature it reaches is 88 degrees, well below the max temperatures allowed,

88C stock clocks @ 1.05v : /

That is odd, mine was hitting 95 etc and they confirmed a fault within 24 hours of receiving it. I mean my card was hitting 95 and throttling itself at times it was throttling itself at 60 which was odd... though hmm...

I understand something will have its operating limits but when something is absurdly hot compared to the average temp of the same card there is clearly a fault.

What was happening with mine was though I could be stressing it with furmark for an hour and it would only hit 71 degrees, I could stop furmark let the card cool down for 10 or so minutes... re stress and suddenly it would top out at 95 and throttle.

I actually just contacted OCUK through webnote and they said they will refund my shipping costs (That was like 30 days ago)

I know right this is the first discrete graphics card I've owned neither am I a experienced builder but hell it was obvious from day 1 something wasn't right.

Although what did it for me was my first attempt at posting a score on the '*OFFICIAL* Top 30 Heaven Benchmark 3.0 Scores' over at overclockers.net then i'd briefly left my desktop to come back to 100C+ ahhh bad times.

I'm glad you're getting all your postage back, I'l only be getting half of mine reimbursed but i won't complain as my issue was resolved accordingly.

Lol, sorry guys, i did edit post. Just sent message off too ocuk as to why they have too show ex vat in bold writting, not always been like that, has it??

There is a button near the top right of the homepage which changes the prices from Inc vat and ex vat, if you are like me and browse on a smartphone I catch the button quite often and fool myself that there are some great bargains to be had

Had a reply from Scott @ Msi (our local Rep).

Will post in a bit more detail on what he said tomorrow but in short all chips are different, cooler the better, temp margins can be tight, ln2 BIOS is just for ln2 and only seasoned overclockers who want to sign a shed load of paperwork can have AB extreme :)
