7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

Nice score crime, what clocks and volts? I'll dig up the work around for you tomorrow, its pretty simple, straight line so 50c = 50%. 1.29 is the highest I've been so far, want to save the high voltages for water :)

I tend to go for 1320 during the morning when my card is the coolest.

My mem/vram temps get to 50/55c :cool:
 
Not entirely convinced on Z77 16x lanes being split into four 8x lanes with the PLX chip. Just to rule that out I bought a gun to play with my four 7970 Lightning's:

The screen setup was right at the time, it was the GPU's that weren't. So I will be trying 5x1 portrait again, but this time with the Samsung's and not the Catleap's. Catleap's just have too many pixels to push in 3-5x setups.


Anyone heard the latest on the Lightning EK water block? Anyone going to be getting some? I have a feeling these cards will do really well on water. There was a guy with a simple water block (GPU only not full cover) on Xtremesystems that got 1350 MHz core on his.

I'l most likely invest in 2 blocks considering the clocks I'm reaching at the moment. 1350 sounds doable :D pushed 1320 yesterday.

Sweet, 1320 on air you should get 1370+ on good Water I think.
 
Blocks are due anytime in the next few weeks, keep checking ek's Facebook page as it gets updated long before their news page.
 
Not sure on card but he had something along the lines of 1375/1925 under water for his awesome heaven score. Not sure on voltages but he must have been in the region of 1.35/1.7v+
 
ahh that's insane! Sadly I won't be watercooling any time soon

Don't understand why the high memory clocks, pretty sure it been said time and time again that anything above 1750 is shows negligible results in these benches and I think the same goes with games.
 
Not sure, will find out though, maybe doesn't matter in games but every point counts in heaven, will try some memory only benches tonight at 1750 and 1800.
 
If it gives you an extra point then I'l pass but if it gives you one more fps I'l be cranking mine up to 2k :p

EDIT: uhhh Crysis drops me to 30fps occasionally but so so worth it!

I put the clocks at 1300/1900 and on the first run it looked like it was going to give me 0.2-0.5 extra final fps. It also managed to to go through without dropping below 59.4fps but it died just as it was about to finish on stage 26 :( mem hit 58C

been doing some tempreture test where all clocks at stock and fan set to 30%, all case fans on low these are my findings

1250mv

core 71c
mem 56c
vrm 62c Hard lock

same v +20% power

core 73c
mem 60c
vrm 66c display driver stopped responding

1300mv

core 66c
mem 51c
vrm 57c display driver....

+20%

core 65c
mem 42c
vrm 48c hard lock

1320 mv

core 61c
mem 39c
vrm 45c hard lock

+20%

vrm 46c hard lock




normally run 24/7 @1250mv at 1125 core and no problems with fan on auto and max core temp 57c
these test's are based using the settings on heaven as in benchmark thread.

too add on stock bios, 12.7 driver and 2.2.1 AB
 
MSI AB 2.2.2 didn't work for you?

Well my last card hated volts but could do 1175 on the core 24/7 at 1.15v rather than 1.25 I'm on now.
 
just ran same 1300mv(0%) test but with case and gpu fans all at max

core 58c which is -8c
mem 46c which is -5c
vrm 42c which is -15c

and it completed test

so it might like volts just wants it super cold???

just tried AB 2.2.2 with 1300mv fans on 30% and case low

crashed half way through

you reboot after you installed 2.2.2? and did you give the gpu time to cool down to roughly the same temps as the gpu was in the first test?

See what happens when the EK blocks come out :)

EDIT: How often is that heaven 3.0 thread updated?
