7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

Buying the following:

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz
Noctua NH-D14
Corsair Obsidian 650D
MSI Z77A-GD65
Samsung 128GB SSD 830
Corsair Professional Series AX650W
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250ohms
Corsair Vengeance K90
Seagate Barracuda Redline Ridgebacks 1866mhz
Samsung SH-S222BB/RSMS
Asus Xonar Essence ST
Windows 7
MSI Lightning Radeon HD 7970 OC 3072MB

Will the PSU be enough to power this system overclocked with the lightning?

I intend to max OC as many parts as i can! :D

Fine for single graphics card. More than fine in fact.

Won't be enough for crossfire if you go down that route in future so if you're even slightly considering it, it could save you money later down the line to get a 750/850 equivalent.

Cheers, just spent the extra £20 and got the AX750w :D

A good choice, some of the ocz units are pretty cheap at the moment, you could go overkill/future proof on an 800w+ unit :)

It seems the other 7970 lightning I bought a couple of months ago has now crapped out as well.

I basically bought two and gave one to my brother and I had to replace mine immediately due to throttling and insta overheating on boot up, his has been fine for like 2 months and now after I've got back off holiday he is telling me I need to RMA it for him as its not even booting anymore. I'm going to get him to drop it off and I'll check my machine but.... this is pretty bad though, Out of the 2 cards I bought on one day both of them were faulty?

My replacement one has been fine so far but I havent even bothered pushing it.

Any info on when these blocks will actually manifest themselves in this reality?!

By all means - Let me know if saying my name backwards and clicking my heels together three times will help!

I spoke to 5UB briefly today (about another matter) and asked about the LTG blocks, was told that they had no more news on an expected date, any time now is about the best we can hope for by the sounds of it.

Its all I'm waiting on to be shipped, motherboard blocks on order, new memory on order, both should be with me over the weekend, just the LTG blocks to come :(

Edit: As of yesterday (08/08/12) an EK rep on xtremesystems said he expects resellers to have stock "within a week at the latest" so my guess is going to be early/mid next week, have them in hand by next weekend for installation :)

Also keep an eye on the xtremesystems thread, expect to see some results of WC sooner rather than later ;)

Any reason you guys just don't order directly from EK? Is it the shipping? Cost about $70 to ship my four Lightning blocks to the US.

EK told me end of august for the 680 version :(. For all I know that could mean end of august they go into manufacturing!

*butts in*

I also tried to contact aquacomputer to ask if their 680 ltg block would be their all-nickel version or the horrible copper. No reply :(
