7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

Depends what someones willing to pay for one used tbh, with the retail price at £380 any more than £300 on a used one you may as well cough up the extra and buy brand new direct.

I'm generally quite hesitant about buying expensive components 2nd hand, very nearly got burned with a faulty CPU earlier this year, fortunately the seller was a nice chap who gave me a refund :)

Also on how old and used it is! If bought from the MM and provided with a copy of the original invoice, also the seller is willing to assist with warranty! your generaly pretty safe.

I game at 2560x1440 and I just sold my second lightning on the MM for £310 inc

You just dont need two from my experience. I downsized and sold all my X79 rig and all the games i want to play inc BF3 run fine on my slightly clocked remaining 7970 lightning.

It would seem the S/N is just to indicate which Lightning you are currently on, could you post me up some screen shots of GPUZ from the stock/LN2 bios? Just so I can see how my bios numbers look in comparison.

Also switch to LN2 bios, enable voltage control in Afterburner and tell me if it still caps at 1.35v.

thats normal bios

just had a quick play, 10 mins with after burner, got it to 1225 which is 17 higher!!!, before it would look like a disco and hard crash, still getting artifacts but it lives!!! so still got a poor chip(for a lightning) but i think its more stable. will have a proper bash when i have more time, getting system back up and running!

That is brilliant news :)

Artifacts = memory, what clocks on the memory are you using? I need around 1.675v for 1950mhz.

Edit: My bios version shows the same as your GPUZ screen
