Is the title normal? Everytime I let my card reach 82/83 I will get a hard lock. Surely this card should run until nearly 100c? VTX3D 7970, STOCK! 1068V, 1050/1425 +20% on power limit.

What are you using to get to those temps? My reference 7970 doesn't go over 75c in Furmark.

There's a possibility that the cooler isn't properly seated. What are the idle temperatures?

Idle is very low, like 30c. It's when I have my fans on low in case, that the card will heat up. RIght now it's at 57c in Guild Wars 2, but furmark will be 68's. It's just annoying, is there a choke on the card?

My lightning crashes at 71c core and 60c for mem and vrm, this is whilst playing sleeping dogs, 10c hotter on core, mem, vrm than anything else i use which includes benchmarks

Getting 150 fps when i dont have AA enabled, the above happened with max AA, gonna try with v sync on to see if it lowers temps, should my card crash at these temps though??

Hijacker! lol :D

Is your lightning a 7970? Is that relevant to this thread? :D

Mine gets to 80 when I have poor case airflow, when I have all my fans going in the arc it runs fine but sometimes I forget to turn them up.

I just think it's a bit weird that it always crashes at 83 on the mark, never been higher than that as has always shut itself off, is it a protection thing? Perhaps the VRMs get too hot?

Sorry mate, but kinda relevant yes, and it should make a feel better knowing that mine crashes well before yours!
