has anyone tried flashing an older non-locked bios? Im thinking of the Gigabyte F1 bios which im sure wasnt locked.

Before I got my MSI 7970 which isn't volt locked I made the mistake of buying an XFX 7970 which was. Before I sent the card back I search for info about bios flashing and apparently it didn't work. Something do the with the vrms.

Dunno if thats all locked cards though so you may have luck. Personally if you've only just got the card I'd send it back and get an MSI like I did :p

seems i have a rev 1.0 which isnt locked. so I just upped vddc in AB by 0.025 and it went up in gpu-z. oddly the gigabyte util stops at 1.175. (F2 bios)

which flasher to flash that? ive heard of people softbricking 7970OC's by flashing Ghz bioses, but those were maybe rev 2.0

Whats the max voltage you can set in Afterburner? With mine its 1.3v. No need to bother flashing your card if you can use Afterburner.

Which XFX version did you get? I got a reference model back in feb. Black edition, I'm just glad my volts are not locked.

But you wont be able to do that if the card is voltage locked which I think is why the OP is exploring whether flashing it will unlock it.

I thought it was locked cos it's a 7970OC but it seems rev 1.0 isn't while 2.0+ is locked. But AB and gpu-z differ on the vddc. Not sure which is accurate.

I got the XFX Double Dissipation Edition about 3 weeks ago, locked volts, no gem temp sensors and the card was a rubbish clocker

OP said he changed the volts in AH and gpuz reported the change.

If you can set 1.3v in AB then there's no point flashing as that's more volts than I'd be wanting to use with air cooling

It will probably clock better with a better cooler on it as the DD's heatsink is flawed due to not letting any air from the fans cool the vms, when oc'ing the vrams get very hot and causes crashing/artifacts.

Trixx/Asus unofficial Gputweak(http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?24233-unoffical-GPUtweak&country=&status=) unlocks the voltage on locked XFX cards, but Gputweak doesn't remember the settings upon reboot, Trixx does.
