Very high most people can get 1050-1100mhz on stock voltage on most cards.

What about the 1.2ghz range?
Depends. If you can get to 1125/1575 without touching voltages, or increasing voltage a small bit then it probably will.
100%. (Lightning ships @ Core: 1070MHz)
Well its a matter of opinion which one is better when overclocked, I suggest you read up some reviews showing performance when overclocked. Most non-reference cooled 7970's will hit 1200MHz now as long as you arent afraid to add a bit of voltage.
Be careful of the Asus card, some seem to be voltage locked which restricts overclocking. What resolution is your monitor?
My reference 7970 will bench and game 1.2ghz at 1.25v with the GE bios, but tbh the most you need to run for most games on their highest settings is about 1150/1600 at 1920x1080

I'm about to order the rest of the parts for my new system and i've read that the 7970 overclocked to 1.2ghz is better then the 680 overclocked.
Which would make it the perfect choice.
Depends. AMD's last two driver releases have increased performance in a lot of games. Performance in BF3 is up about 12% (maybe a little more) since the launch day driver was released.
It's gone so close that he 7970 and 680 both have the upper hand in different games. It's really down to preference, but since the 7970 is ~£70 cheaper than a 680 than that's the way to go IMO.
Can i change the voltage ok with afterburner?
And would it game at 1.2 without the GE bios?
Yes without a doubt, was just saying that i'm running that bios.
Yeah those ones do but the stock MSI 7970 ship at 925Mhz ref clocks. Just reread he said the lightning sorry so yeah they are over 1gz at stock.
