Hi all,

Just got a new motherboard - Asus Maximus VII Ranger, and on inserting my GPU (7970) which has an aftermarket cooler on it, nothing appeared. Once I lifted it up from sagging, it worked, but was very iffy on where it would work. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

It is really starting to bug me :p

Thanks!

Thanks,

I have a piece of wood holding it up now, but the slightest knock will make the display go. I will try fishing line tomorrow :)

Tried many things now and it still doesn't display. It did yesterday, so it is VERY picky with where it sits to work. Don't know what else to do bar getting a new GPU.

Try the other pcie slot. If it still does it then it's possibly a contact on the gpu that might be dirty so try cleaning it with alcohol wipe.

Also check the power connector pins. Possibility of a bad connection somewhere.

Ahhh, I didn't think about the power cables, I will check later. I will also clean the pins.

If I do get a new GPU, it'll probably be a R9 290X. Which one would be best? By that, I mean cooler? Which cooler is best?

Thanks!

Not at home currently :P I have a feeling it won't fit with the aftermarket cooler I have on it, the PSU gets in the way.

Tempted between the Matrix or a 970. Help me decide please!!!

The 970 with two free games is a good deal, but if playing at 1440p+ I'd take 290X. 1080p, either are a good shout

Hmm, probably 970 then for the two free games

Try and find out what's not working first though, if it's the motherboard slot then it's RMA time and hopefully the GPU is fine
