Hi,

After long periods of idle I will get a BSOD due to the 7970, any thoughts?

I leave the PC on 24/7, so just every so often when I return to it in the morning it has a BSOD.

Cheers

Just checked AMD website, yes I have 12.3

It was happening before I upgraded to this driver too.

I also noticed something odd, I was up to about 4am last weekend and the fan went into overdrive for 20 seconds, massive change in sound. I think I was playing Diablo II - hardly an effort for my PC.

I have issues with monitor sleep resulting in black screen that I can only recover from by resetting.

Solved for now by disabling monitor off, which is not ideal.

I do think there are a few low power issues with these cards that AMD really need to sort, which can hopefully be fixed in drivers.

Have you tried disabling ULPS?

no I haven't, I will have a look into that.

Maybe in ULPS mode the fan is not spinning, it overheats and has to catch up - if it fails to do that it blue screens? (wild theory!)

First off, stick the 12.4 drivers on, they're about a million times better than the 12.3

The problems with sleep are more than likely motherboards not being able to handle the ULPS. It won't be overheating as it's not doind anything, it's effectively off. It'll probably be addressed in a later driver or by motherboard BIOS updating.
