You do realise that you are now the only person on these forums that cannot get a 7970 to work properly. Been as though you post on each thread a least 100 times i would have thought you would have the knowledge to sort out you're system. Plus what is this rubbish with BF3 @2560x1440 maxed everything 45fps, xfire 70+fps what's wrong with that not underwhelming at all. Never had seen a problem either single or xfire 7970. You need to spend more practical time with youre PC and less theory, everyone else seems to be ok with the ATI drivers.
I've seen plenty of issues with the 7970. Well, more with AMD's drivers. Go and look at the latest driver update thread and read some of the horror stories.
As for getting it work properly? I've done everything I can. Completely ruled out human error. I do know what I'm doing you know. But, I have had to conclude that there is no fixing it because it is beyond my control. Whilst I have done some hobbyist programming writing my own drivers is just a bit out of my league I'm afraid.
Why also did you jump in a buy a 7970 (knowing in youre words) that ATI drivers are so bad, every new GPU has its teething problems. I would have thought that someone like you would have waited till all reviews and forum feedback was collated before buying.
Because crapola drivers or not I simply could not justify paying more for an Nvidia counterpart that was outclassed and beaten in absolutely everything conclusively. Good thing really, as the prices on the 580s have just dropped.
What I mean of course is that I really truly wanted a 580 Classified. But, it cost £25 more than a 7970 and I would have been quite frankly insane to pay that given that even at the peak of its overclocking prowess the 580 C still fell way short of the 7970 in terms of performance.
I have had about 10 ATI cards in the last 3 years in 4 Pc`s never had a problem with any, most were xfire setups.
You have narrowed down to a monitor and blame ATI drivers as a whole (plus the last 5 for so years) because you cannot get it to work on it
So you never once had a problem with Crossfire? ever? Can you do me a favour and part the red sea please, I fancy a stroll. Joking aside near on all of it comes down to luck.
And yes, I do blame the drivers. I blame them because I run a monitor that AMD recommend you buy to use with 3D on their GPU. So the least they could do is, you know? make it work properly.
For what its worth I also blame Nvidia for breaking their drivers with regards to the 2xx series cards and not giving a crap, gleefully breaking them more with each revision.
