Not sure if anyone else has any problems with Skyrim, but I cant seem to run the game any more......

All other games running great, but Skyrim has no selectable resolution in the config and when I try to launch it 'fails to initialise graphics adapter'.

Guessing this is down to early drivers for the 7970.

I'd presume if there was an inherent fault with the early drivers and Skyrim then the fanboys would be trolling by now, so probably a problem your end?

Try reinstalling drivers usin driver sweeper.

Skyrim running fine with the released 11.12 drivers for the 7970.
Don't have it in front of me but isn't there a number of config ini files in the save game folder ?
Always deleted them whenever I wanted the game to rescan new hardware etc.
Failing that it could be down to a driver re-install and 11.12 Cap.

Have you tried to just type in your desired res in SkyrimPrefs.ini and launch the game. [you probably did just asking]

Could do the job untill new drivers come out.

Make sure your monitor drivers are installed too and working right. The monitor drivers are normally a small inf file. Just make sure the new card is picking up the monitor and what it is capable of correctly.

A friend of mine had a similar issue on skyrim after updating drivers - no high res modes available.

He also spotted that although the ati control panel had all the higher res options available, within windows resolution selection itself they were missing.

Tried seeing if there were any updated drivers for his monitor (or in this case TV) but no joy. Reverting back to earlier driver fixed it though.

Is you're screen being detected as an unknown type or "pnp monitor" etc by any chance? Is it just skyrim that's effected?

edit - just spotted you mention other games running fine so does appear to be a skyrim specific issue. Can you get it to run auto-detect/setup again?

Try right clicking 'Skyrim' in Steam library, go to properties, local files, 'verify integrity of game cache', doing this has solved game launch and other problems for me in the past. As you've already reinstalled Skyrim it probably won't help but worth a try I suppose.
