7970 Trifire / Eyefinity Problems. Making Some Progress Now.

Hi guys,
If you have seen me around here of late you will know I have had a mare since buying my third 7970. Well, I figured I owe you all an update after your kind help, so here goes....

After a night of extensive messing around I have concluded that it is for certain the Tri-fire causing the problem. Tonight I have tried 3 different drivers and also did some 3DMark 11 runs on each driver, concluding that 12.96 is the best performing one on my machine. (In trifire - beating all my V12.95 scores)

Then I created a spreadsheet noting what each game will and, more usually, wont do. (Load at all? Crossfire / trifire / single screen / infinity)

Then I pulled out one crossfire bridge at a time this testing triple / double / single cards. Result = EVERYTHING bar Alan wake works fine in Single 7970 and Crossfire 7970, but virtually nothing works in Trifire.

The usual result for Tri-Fire + Eyefinity is a 116 BSOD referencing the ATI Driver, didnt have time to try everything with one monitor tri-fire, may do that later this week, but doubt it as I simply want Eyefinity to work with everything as I love it.

I have just tried crossfire with both combinations of 2 cards and each combo with 1, and works fine with each, so can be reasonably sure the cards are all ok. Looks like the tri-fire / eyefinity side of things simply isnt working yet.

I Guess I will just leave that 2nd bridge to the 3rd card off for now and enjoy the hardware until AMD get round to fixing it for us.

Interesting... just been sent teh way of "Furmark" so have ran that bench test in extreme and it shows all three cards working fine at 99% load, so set up a profile to turn the Xfire off and that works as expected too. Wierd.

Going to make my own BF3 profile now to disable Xfire and over ride AMD's own, see if that allows me to load it up!

Does anyone know if its posible to make a profile to disable JUST ONE card?
I.E: To take Tri-Fire down to Crossfire upon application load of say, BF3?

AMD obviously haven't bothered to take the time to add trifire support yet.

They won't, either. They will prioritise what is important which is basically getting one card to work properly first (which they still need to do for me as I have sleep/wake issues) and then they'll move onto Crossfire. They probably won't bother too much with Crossfire until it's really important (IE when the 7990 comes out and they want to show off).

Personally I would take the third card out and sell it and just use two. But it's your call to make :)

There are plenty of triFire 7xxx users that are not having the same issues as the OP, the OP case is the worst i have seen so far in regards to trifire 7xxx plus Eyefinity issues.

Don't use every issue as an excuse to slate as that is no different than console users using every PC issue as an excuse to slate PC gaming over consoles and they do have potentially allot of ammo to work with.

Yep, head over to OCN and some people running four of these babies, but maybe not the plurality of games OP describes. I don't think anything is wrong with your cards but have you tried cross checking your hardware with what others running tri/quad-fire setups? PSU / driver settings / etc...

I know you have this up on OCN too, Best of luck getting it sorted

I thought it might be PSU at first but if you furmarked it then it is unlikely to be. It may be some of your hardware on the basis that other guys have it working fine...
Hope you get it sorted as its such a waste to have a card sat there doing nothing.

I have similar problems to you, sort of.

With the latest preview driver tri fire is not working on eyefinity. With the first radeon 7000 driver it is.

Strange thing is in my other motherboard tri fire worked on the newer drivers fine...
