Just sold my 7970..

Running I7 930 Cpu @ 3.8, best single card upgrade for around £400 without too much noise would be?

I game at 1440p, Bf4 is struggling at 1440p with a single 7970.

Thanks!

Hi Fluidz.

I did some testing on a Titan with a decent OC on BF4 and the worst map was Paracel Storm for returns with 67 fps average and the best map was Golmud railway with 87 fps average. This was all at Ultra including 4XMSAA. I mention the Titan, as I expect a 290/780/290X/780 Ti to match this, so it will give you a basis of what you can expect. Please be aware though that my benching was all done on 32 man Domination.

How would the msi 780 twin frozer fair to the 7990 ?

And what Psu would I need at most? Im upgrading from a thermaltake evo blue 750w, which isnt that efficient. Need a clean psu for clean usb power feeding my dac.

Max budget for a psu will be £100.

Thanks!

I don't mind switching from ati to nvidia.. My panel is a asus pb278q, I wont be needing more than 60fps.

What's the difference in framerate between the two cards i listed guys? I know the 7990 is two cards in one, hence suffer frameskipping as its ctx?, and the noise/heat concerns me.

How much more frames cant he 7990 push out above the twin frozer 780?

Appreciate the help!

The 7990 is quite a lot faster than a 780, and will have Mantle support in BF4.

Some benchmarks are showing poor results for the 7990 in BF4 due to early drivers that scaled very badly.

A 7990 would be heavily bottlenecked with your CPU at 3.8. It would need to be around 4.6 - 5.0 Ghz to get rid of that though, so quite a bit needed (me guessing on speeds needed btw).

A 7990 will pull 347w at full load (GPU only) and it runs quieter than a reference 7970 at 45Db at load (44DB for 7970 reference card).

And here is how a 7990 performs in BF4

Hope that helps :)

The smart move is a 7990. £200 cheaper than a 780TI and significantly faster.

No and its 35% faster on average fps and 60% faster on minimum fps than Nvidia's flagship.

Ignore any talk of a cpu bottleneck. Mantle will solve that for you. You have an i7 and mantle is gonna love 8 core/threaded cpu's.

The CPU may well be fine without any OC with Mantle in BF4, since it has 8 threads.

The Gigabyte 7990 was up here yesterday at £375, shame you missed it.

Even with Mantle if people want to play multiplayer I suspect they are going to need a big overclock on the CPU. Mantle may help with graphics but I suspect it will do very little to help with the number crunching involved on the CPU when in multiplayer mode.

There'll still be a bit of a bottleneck tbh. Ive tested my sli 670's in my second rig, (i7 930 @4.0ghz). Card usage was around 75% max, i can max them at 91% on a stock 4770k in the setup in sig. Res was 1920x1200 though so will be a bit less at 1440p.

I can't believe that people are dismissing bottlenecks now and claiming Mantle will sort it. I am sure Fluidz has an interest in other games and I would rather be made aware of it, rather than telling people to ignore any talk of a bottleneck.

You are putting so much faith into Mantle, I sure hope it lives up to the hype it is being given here.

You haven't tested with Mantle though :) I'm not saying there won't be any CPU bottleneck, rather there may not. It's one of the primary goals of the API.

And you have tested Mantle? You are basing something on talk alone, where as Setter is basing on experience :o

What experience?

You're dismissing what the developers of the game are saying without any evidence at all. I'm saying that what they're saying may actually be true, I hardly think that is the same.
