7970 with Skyrim?

Ok ive had nothing but problems with Skyrim and AMD cards lol, so hopefully someone can explain this one!

7970 max settings 60 fps constant never moves.

Game seems really stuttery not fluid at all, had a 660 before this sort of the same settings fps would move sometimes outside but the game was smooth as could be! The 7970 does have max AA but ive tried without and same result!

This is again another example of why i think Nvidia are smoother then AMD.

I cant seem to budge this stutteryness, does anyone have this problem? Ive googled it and seems like a few people have come across it and its something to do with the Vsync and Nvidia have "better" vsync software?

If i download a frame block so it remains at say 64 fps, it causes tearing, some said try dxtory but this causing tearing which is worse then the stuttering.

Its the only game ive had problems with so far but like i said i had skyrim running perfect with the 660 so........

This game always ran fine for me with 79XX...

Try using afterburner to cap the fps at 59.

I remember when I had what I could only think of as microstutter, this with vsync was only way to get running smoothly without lag.

That was for crossfire, but you never know.

Its a single card so its not micro stutter, its like a jerkyness if i stand still and move the mouse in a circle its like jerky not fluid if you get me?

i5 4.4, 8gb ram 7970 all drivers uptodate. Using 12.11 on card so its latest.

I dont really wanna try AB but may have to if no one has a fix.

SO much crap online about skyrim its hard to find more then a few threads with this problem.

You ain't messed with the Skyrim config or anything have you? It goes a bit funny if certain things are changed.

For example, if I force the refresh rate to 120 Hz things start flying around and bouncing. I've even seen the cart that you get wheeled in on at the beginning completely turn over.

Enable Vsync if you haven't already. I've got no such issues with a 7950 and Skyrim on the latest drivers.

What OS?

Also don't set an FPS limit above 60 FPS, Skyrim has its physics tied to 60 FPS max. So set an FPS limit to something lower than 60.

Ok when i game in window mode theres 0 stuttering does this help anyone find a fix? Really strange how this is? Im really sensitive and dont game unless everything is perfect, even on all low settings this still stutters but window mode is perfect like it should be.

Nope no config messing, but i will change the shadow thing later lol.

Windows 7 pro 64.

Skyrim has Vsync set by auto so i havent turned it off or on.

To set an FPS limit ill need to download AB or can i do in the config file?

Nah they didnt fix it i already had them installed.

Do they auto get used or how do i select them? Since it says no profiles available.

Window mode is perfect btw so i must try use this but in full screen, i really dont understand how the hell it can change!

Been playing Skyrim since it came out on my xfire 5770s and it ran very smooth. Upgraded t a 7970 and lots of various drivers and never had any problems with Skyrim in all my many hours playing it.

There is a problem there and this is a brand new pc so if it works in window mode and not fullscreen it must be a software issue not a hardware issue.

Whats RadeonPro? Im sure CCC is doing something when in fullscreen mode and causing this but ive disabled everything AMD related such as the AMD tesselation and still the same problem.

Some people may not notice it, if you look at the ground when walking its like its stuttering a bit in window mode totally fluid.

Found another way to easily notice it, when on the skilltree page it is kinda slow and jerky, but in window mode totally fluid again, this is the best example i can think of to show the stuttering.

I haven't played Skyrim in a long time so I loaded it up to test and you are correct, it does stutter quite a bit. Though thankfully it is very easily fixable.

If you have Radeonpro use it to set the game to run at no more than 60 FPS, or lock it to the monitors refresh if it is a 60Hz monitor. Also set the flip queue size in the advanced section to 1.

You could also try setting triple buffering but that introduces input lag. As soon as you lock the FPS in Radeonpro to 60Hz the stuttering is eliminated.

Nice one can you link the Radeonpro you are talking about? I hope its not bloatware stuff lol.

But if it fixes it its worth a bash.

Yup it does stutter im sensitive so notice this easy, some people dont, i mean even at 60 FPS it stutters this is why some people said i talk crap about Nvidia cards and AMD but Nvidia does not do this at all.

Atlast i have something to prove my point!

Radeonpro is kinda of complicated, ive tried to create a profile and selected the skyrim exe but it seems its not using it? I set the 60Hz but no luck?

EDIT - yeah its not working ive applied and launched still stuttering here?

Do you just play Skyrim? No? Then use the work around and stop whinging :p.

Can't say I've heard of anyone else suffering on these forums that I can think of but whatever. If it works jobs a good en. If not then and it's bothering you that much, send it back and buy a 670. Going to look all but identical without an FPS counter on, on a 1080p screen.

I run 1920x1200, ofc ill whinge im not happy, putting up with it is not an option and i want the 7960 so no :D

ICDP, can you help with the settings you used it seems they are not working for me?

Ive set 60Hz and flip queue size in the advanced section to 1 but still not smooth.

Is there anyway to limet to say 57 FPS using radeonpro?
