Hi guys, I'm back with another problem with my 7970 :(

The grey screen problem seemed to sort itself out with a driver sweep, but now I seem to have another issue.

Twice yesterday and three times today I've lost all output on screen, and my 7970 fan went straight to 100% speed (it shocked me at first, this thing is damn loud :p). All times I had to hard reset as the pc was completely unresponsive.

This happened on both Minecraft and Doom 3, which I find really strange as it coped with an hour of Heaven just fine.

Does anyone have any ideas with what could be wrong?

I'm using the 12.7 beta drivers and have been since I got it.
Yeah I've had it OC'd to 1125Mhz since day 1. It doesn't seem to be bad-OC crash though, hmm.

Sounds like a core crash due to OC to me.

Either increase the core voltage or reduce the core OC.

Hmmm yeah, maybe. It just seems strange that it's been fine all this time, then suddenly starts acting up.
I'll give it a go with a bit more voltage and then also at stock clocks and see how it goes.

certain brands of 7970 react this way normally when using the beta drivers 12.6 and 12.7 while using firefox or flash. This is normal and it's annoying but please use the latest official release and maybe stop using firefox. I've switched to chromeplus since and have stopped getting this error,.

I got my watercooled 7970 at the highest settings in afterburner and it works a treat. It is safe at maximum available voltage so give it a go. Either that or reset to factory to see if it is the OC that is causing the problem.

Thanks for the heads up dude, I'll give 12.6 a go :)

Run CCC 12.3 instead of 6 or 7 gives the card a more stable Oc theres a couple of members that have run in to the same problem.
I get the same problem with 12.6 on a 7850 Oc but as soon as i change driver to 12.3 it runs fine seems that the other updates aren't stable enough.

On my 7850 I cannot overclock on the 12.6/12.7 (and maybe other versions I haven't tried) and I get crashes similar to what you describe.

When my overclock is removed, its fine.
