Yes. An i5 bottlenecks them in some games although an i5 Ivy will be marginally better than an i5 Sandy due to PCI-E 3.0.

If you want max performance from your cards, then yes.

To be clear when I say bottleneck it does paint a picture of a massive performance impact.

With an i5 2500k you're looking at a bottleneck at around 85% GPU usage in BF3 MP as opposed to 95-99% with an i7 3770K (this is what I see).

Hardly the end of the world so it's up to you if it's worthwhile or not

I moved from an i5 2500k to an i7 3770k but that was only because I got a fairly decent price selling my old motherboard/CPU and it made the cost of upgrading the motherboard/CPU well under £100 overall.
