Recently purchased a 7990 from Ebay and was very happy with the results.

However, playing new release games is a complete nightmare.

In menu of some games the screen freezes then crashes to desktop saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". Which i can deal with to an extent. (Grid Autosport, FEAR 3)

But in some games, Shadow of Mordor, League of Legends, World of Warcraft in particular, the screen just ceases and goes black mid game. Which is very irritating indeed. Moreover, there is a lot of flickering and 'ripples' going across the screen in many of my games too.

I have followed the trouble shooting steps provided by AMD to patch up the driver recovery and have adjusted power settings in the control panel. All of which to no avail.

I tried numerous versions of CCC but they don't help at all.
I have also updated every single driver on my system including Windows 7 itself.

Could it be a power deprivation issue? I am running it from an old 750W ******** power station after all. I really hope it is not a faulty card is because I have no warranty on it as it was a 2nd hand card.

I appreciate any further guidance, thank you.

Sounds like a Psu issue to me , make sure both power cables in to the card are running separate and not from the same lead , what Psu specs please as 750w could me a thing from a Chinese bag of poo to a. High quality super flower or seasonic unit

It is one from nova tech which i believe is a re branded OCZ unit and its semi modular

Not enough info to go on . Going to need find the information for the 12v rails should be voltage/wattage/amp information on the side with any luck , try run those games at all low settings no aa etc which should reduce the load quite a bit on the gpu , run it until it either does it again or appears stable( might take a while to see if it falls over ) if it stays stable , then it's not providing enough amps or wattage or both. If it falls over no matter , more investigating on the Psu and gpu is requirred

Just for the record, ive (at this moment) found a fix for the black screen. I re fitted the rails because i noticed they weren't fully in. It turned out there was some kind of metal debris in the socket on the card. Thanks for the help nonetheless. FPS has gone up too..

Some of the higher end Power Station PSUs are made by the same OEM behind some of the OCZ ones AFAIK. OTH,there were cheaper ones which seem lower tier.
