7990 heatsinks and thermal paste

So my 7990 has been running well till last week. But now gpu 1 is running 10-15c hotter then gpu 2. I figure the thermal paste might need changing or at least I've heard it's not a bad idea. While I'm there I'm wondering about adding those small heatsinks on the backplate. It's incredibly hot in several spots (can't remember the name of the chips that sit there). Basically has anyone had these issues and sorted them? I figure the tiny cost of all these items shouldn't be a offput and has to achieve a slightly cooler card?! Any ideas?

Without going water which is very price, you cant really improve temps drastically. You will get some nice results if there is performance to be gained due to bad air flow and such but due to the 7990 having such a unique PCB (obviously because there is two 7970's on there) aftermarket coolers for it are limited to custom water.

Considering its second hand price, i would just sell it and upgrade to another Xfire set up if temperatures were that bad. Get lucky with the sale and you might even be able to net enough cash to buy two 290's if you add a bit of your own cash on top of it.

Cant give you price check here but a google will give you all the answers you need if you are tempted by the idea.

A ghetto AIO loop mod would not solve the issue, as the amount of power these pull would make the VRM's too toasty for non active cooling on them.

Keeping the idea of water but never done anything like it and like you say the price is drastic,i think in summer my pc is just going to need to be off this is a small room and when gaming with this card its quite toasty in this room.
I ran the same things this morning and temps are only 3-4 degrees appart so im guessing the restart did something to its usage.
There is a option which is still expensive and ive not seen it on a 7990 so dont even know if it would work the Accelero Hybrid but x2 of these and its very expensive again! But would it work and would it be worth doing?im very tempted to try (damn these money things putting me off)

Watercool it, radiator in a cupboard, install a bathroom vent in same cupboard to draw the hot air out and away (either into loft or outside world).. Stops you baking and lets you game in the summer months with hot kit.

:)

The water cooking world is a absolute nightmare of stuff. I have no idea how to start it out! And cost seems high at first look?!
