Hey guys, anyone running this config? If so does it get loud? Not "that" bothered as its almost only used at LAN partees but i would not want it being mental..

Also, whats the cap whine like.. Ive heard it mentioned, but is it a real issue.. Looking at current prices its so tempting to get a 7990 and be done for as long as I can imagine!

PSU is 760 Corsair modular so no issues on power front..

It will fit, Wont be too loud as the prodigy has vents

if you get a card that whines then it can be loud, but some say they dont get it at all

Yeah no coil whine here for me :)

The card does run fairly cool...plus as mentioned prodigy has good intake of air so directing the flow to the exhaust should work well.

I'd go for it personally as it's a fantastic deal.

I put a 690 in a prodigy and fitting the stock vented side panel made a big difference in temps. With the window panel it ran very hot.

More questions.. I would go for Giga anyway as i like the UK warranty and company etc etc...

QQ though, do they use a Giga PCB, ie is it ultra durable features etc etc or is it plain jane?

They fit in a Prodigy fine, but do not OC it, won't like that and keep the ambient temperature down otherwise it will throttle.

Cheers Gibbo, QQ while u r there, do they use upgraded PCB on the Gigabyte model or is it ref?

Doomedspeed, I have been there and done the WC thing.. Its like a garden, looks nice when its all in order but I don't want the maintenance...

7990 - ONLY BUY REFERENCE AMD DESIGN!

Gigabyte and HIS we sell are reference design, easily identifiable by the cooler design.

Any cooler that looks different, avoid, they are loud, hot and unreliable.

Haha! amazing analogy!

Don't like pruning then? :D

Thats fair enough, just thought it'd be a great way to keep it cool, as the prodigy has ample space (for an ITX rig) to get a decent loop in.. :D

Agree with Gibbo, stick to reference design. It is a very good cooler regardless and is also very quiet considering what it is cooling.

Ive got windowed side, so no vents... Have got front fan though so there is decent airflow...
If you do get a 7990, I'd STRONGLY recommend you switching back to default panel with vent.

For my Prodigy even with the 230mm BitFenix Spectre Pro fan, it simple not good at feeding cool air to the graphic card standing on the edge so close to the panel.

I've used a 8800GTS 320MB with a blower cooler in that case, and the different in temp between the default panel with vents and window panel without vent is as much as 10C.

Really hate to say this, but as much as I like the window panel, functionality/practicality wise it is worse than the default panel...

Guys cheers for all the feedback, in desperate to do it as i love the idea of a pocket rocket but don't want it to sound like one! Will have to make my mind up next 60 mins!

Definite negative on pruning, i tend to mow the lawn but leave the pruning to the other half :)

There is no reason why you cannot add a 80MM Hole to the window right above the Fans on the 7990.

Wouldnt be hard to mesure where they are and then get the window laser or CNC cut to match perfectly.
This way you get max air for them and keep the window!

Dont want to ruin the stock window? Simple.
Buy a small peice of acyrlic and have that cut and simply pop the old sheet off and put new sheet on
