Cost of upgrading aside, is it worth going from a 780 to a 7990? Having never owned amd before I'm a little sceptical. Little advice please, remember money is not a factor here.

Wouldn't personally go from a (decent OC 780) to a 7990, some cases the 7990 will be a fair bit faster but the 780 will give a smoother overall experience without being hideously slower in most cases.

If you have already a 780 and don't need the cash then I would stick with what you have.

Buying second hand the 7990 is amazing value for a Titan beating card.

No, overclock the poo out your 780 and if that's not enough (since money is not an issue) get another 780

I went from a 7990 to a 780. 7990 is nice when it works, and a pain when it doesn't. It started to hack me off having to do a couple of hours trouble shooting every time I bought a new game.

Thanks for the comnent, that's exactly the type of thing I want to avoid. Its been smooth sailing with my 780.

Ok it's pretty unanimous in favour of the 780. Had visions of 2 x 7990s which would be something
2x7990's is something in BF4, 5760x1080 showing 100+fps etc... not sure why people have so many problems with the 7990 though it's ran every game I've had without fail since buying two of them... that's running quadfire although BF4 over time has caused problems, but just switched to 1x7990 and it's been perfect... not a single game doesn't run silky smooth on it.

However, no don't "upgrade" from a 780, just not worth it.

The 7990 will only be good where crossfire scaling is good. In games that doesn't support or scale well then the 7990 will be no where near as good as your 780. And you have a 780 lightning which is supposed to be a beast of a card?
Just overclock the nuts off it!

Someone buying second hand cards isn't going to be in the market for 4 Titans - don't be daft.

You can compare cards easily, the 7990 is quicker than a Titan in most games and is dirt cheap. Yes it's crossfired dual GPUs but that's not exactly the end of the world.

If you look at averages:

The 7990 is 25% faster then a GTX 780 at 1080p

And that widens to 43% faster at 1440p

Now with a custom BIOS on a GTX 780 and good cooling you can clock then to 1.3Ghz+ which is a good 25% overclock.

That will narrow the gap down at 1080p to pretty much nothing and bring the 1440p gap down to 22%.

If you game at 1440p you just have to ask yourself if that 22% performance is worth the hassle.
