7990 to 970?

SLI 970 will be far better than a 7990, my 7990 was far too hot and loud.
it's cooler is far too shallow for a dual card, it needed to be 3 slots deep.

Volt your card to 1.125v and it'll be fine temp wise. I went from 1.200v to this and lost 10C, handy when running 2x7990's... the only cards I'd upgrade to is 2x295's tbh. However you have one so... swings and roundabouts.

I forgot to set the voltage again after I updated afterburner a while ago. I managed to get it to 1.135v, the pc freezed when I went lower. It seems to make a difference but I still want to get aŵay from CFX to a single card. Looks like I'll have to wait until next year for a decent upgrade.

My board is the asrock extreme 4 gen 3 and drops to 8x in sli as well. It still runs like a beast and from I can tell 16x will make little difference. Got a rig swift to go with my setup and I'm done upgrading until a big leap in cpus arise as the difference isn't worth the cost yet.

Can tell manufacturers want new chips soon when gigabyte offers free upgrades for three years on some boards when new tech comes out. Market must be slowing down.

Great review here with 970 in SLI comparison with the 7990 included in some of the results.

The 7990 still holds up relatively well for what you can buy one for now. The offset of selling your 7990 against the price of 2 x 970's would make an upgrade cost of less than £350. You'll need to work out the % in performance increase on your favourite game if it's in that review plus account for most of those results are stock speeds and there is a lot to be gained from OC'ing the 970's too for even more performance.

I'm surprised how well the 7990 holds up too at 4k in BF4!
