I wasn't going to post these originally and had only made them to reply to a Tweet asking to see high ISO performance on the 7D but following the DXOMark thread I thought I'd let you guys make your own minds up.

Shot in very dark storage hangars at RAF Shawbury on Friday. Two 100% RAW crops without any noise reduction (white balance being the only change)....

ISO 2000 (500KB file!)....

ISO 3200 (600KB file!)....

I'll dig out a 40D from a previous visit to those hangars to compare.

The ISO 2000 one is very impressive but I thought that performance at 3200 would be a bit better. Heard ISO 3200 on the 5D mkII is amazing.

Did you get to go in the hangars on the other side of the airfield where all the apaches are hiding?

No Apaches there anymore. My last visit in late 2007 they were preparing them for transport to Wattisham.

The ISO 2000 one is very impressive but I thought that performance at 3200 would be a bit better. Heard ISO 3200 on the 5D mkII is amazing.

ISO 3200 is pretty much unusable. The full frame sensor on the 5Dmk2 should give better performance.

At 100% with no NR they're bound to look noisy, but the amount of detail retained at 3200 iso i would say is plenty usuable, having seen this thread on TP makes me somewhat envious of the 1600-3200 iso capability of the 7D.
