Pretty crazy memory speed, be interesting to see if this pops up on some new graphics cards. It will be good if/when ddr5 starts getting used with cpus:D

Why can't manufacturers make this speed memory to be used for Standard Ram instead of the DDR3 we currently have that maxes out at around 2000mhz??

In addition to being DDR5 based memory being INSANELY expensive, current memory controllers can't keep up. DDR3 is capable of MUCH more than 2000mhz but current memory controllers are difficult to run at 2000+.

7GHz system ram would negate the need for dedicated GPU memory.

Well, if it weren't for that pesky PCI-E interface being in the way! I doubt we'll see 7GHz GDDR5 on actual production graphics cards for at least a couple of years, as it'll be stupendously expensive for a while, though I wouldn't be surprised if the 5800 series came equipped with 5 or 6GHz effective GDDR5 memory.

Edit: That all being said, it'd be completely feasible to use 128-bit interfaces for high-mid-range graphics cards with memory that fast...

True. When new hardware comes out on the shelves we are all amazed, but really, the hardware is much outdated.
I bet intel finished the i7 a year or two ago, and just held on until the right time for release. I also bet the new xbox is not far from completion too!
