8 + 8 = BSOD / Lock Ups

I currently have 8GB Corsair Vengeance kit CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 running on XMP profile (9-9-9-24 @ 1.5v)

Saw the exact same kit for sale in the MM so snapped it up nice and cheap. When adding the new two sticks to my existing sticks, I am getting random locks up and the occasional BSOD.

Bad stick(s) you say? Well I have tested both individually using MemTest for over 12+ hrs on each stick, both had over 15 passes and 0 errors.

My overclock was removed and the entire BIOS reset. I'm on the latest BIOS (F7) and running on a Gigabyte G1 Sniper M5 with a 4670k.

Any ideas? My current vengeance kit is fine and passes memtest by the way :D

Thanks
James

also try without x.m.p and manually setting up speed/timings

seen instability with xmp on /gigabyte haswell, was fine on manual

Slapped both sets back in, disabled XMP and set the timings manually and had a lock up within 30 mins.

Anything else to try? Would it be worth upping the voltage from 1.5v slightly? and if so, what should I bump it up to (in intervals)

Cheers

I have had similar problems, so can relate.

Firstly try Mem Test again with both sticks, which test does it generate errors or crash?
* Test 1-4 are Memory, Wright an Read tests. So If errors or crashes occur here, its physically the memory at fault.
(Not compatible, Poor connection to MB, insufficient power.)

*Test 5-8 are Memory controller, So how the CPU interacts an manipulates data/ram. It can be CPU or MotherBoard or Ram, at fault here.
(Try reseating the CPU, Checking the MB for blown capacitors/resistors, lose parts, or incompatible ram.)

My issue arrived with:
I5 2500K.
Asrock z68 Extreme4 Gen3.
Corsair XMS 4x4GB PC1333.

With one stick, the system was stable for days, while two or more eventually caused the system to generate errors in Mem-test, Test 3, an crash in Test 4.
An booting normally, at times it was even difficult to POST, with more than one stick of Ram.

My eventual solution, was to check the CPU + Motherboard connections. While the CPU was out my dad pocked the pins with his finger, stressing them. :(
While re-inserrting CPU, one broke... Down £150 later, I am waiting on an identical board to arrive...

I have tested both sticks individually and together, every time they reach 15+ passes with no errors. I'm pretty confident that all 4 sticks are fine, in all combos in regards to MemTest ...

Looks like I'll stick with 8gb for the time being or sell all 4 sticks and get the 16gb kit (2x8)

Did you solve this, have exactly same issue with same specs.
Have had bsod 0x7f and 0x101 the ram runs perfect with just 2 sticks.
Tried the usual with imc, voltages XMP off and still unstable/unpredictable.

Gigabyte + z87 + 16gb ram is a combination that seems a little flawed, it happened to me, the bsods that is, my z87x-oc would flat out refuse to run 16gb 2400mhz ram, I've heard of it happening to others too, though more specifically on z87 rather then just giga.

I fixed my issue by buying an msi z97 board.

Edit: that's some thread revival, nearly a year to the day!!!

When increasing the number of sticks in a system it puts more strain on things, certainly the imc, so ioa, iod, vtt, sa whatever there called on your board will require a touch more voltage and sometimes possibly the cpu.
