We're about to have an 8 Ball pool competition at work and I want to clear one particular rule up if possible.

Do you have to nominate a pocket when you are on the 8/black ball. I've had a look at the updated world 8 ball pool rules from here but can't find anything which suggests that you do. I'm not interested in variations that can be played (because I know some people do play nominate a pocket), just the official 8 ball rules, I guess as played in big tournaments.
Does anyone know what the official rule is for nominating a pocket on the black?
(already had a quick Google and couldn't find anything useful)

Nope, don't have to nominate in the uk game. Theres variations of pool in america you have to nominate ball number and pocket for every shot, straight pool. I think american 8 ball you have to nominate the black pocket.

It differs from league to league, some you have to some you don't

If its a work thing then go with the majority

I'd go with the G|mpy view on this one, just get a consensus of what people want to play and go with that as long as you are consistent in applying it. Nominating can be a bit of a pain when it is clear that there is only likely to be one pocket you'd go for but you forget to explicitly say.

In the rules of 8 ball if you don't nominate your bag you forfeit the game, like SPW says outline the rules from the start and stick by them throughout :)

I played for the County and England u18's at 8 ball :)
