hey was thinking about upgrading my ram from my puny 4gb to 8gb but was wondering should I get more then 8gb now considering memory is so cheap atm, thanks
More than 8GB depends on what you would be doing, to be honest I can't see why anyone would want (or need) more than 8GB unless they were using their PC for professional reasons or running virtual machines, or suffering from OCD and wanting to fill up all their ram slots.
8GB is the current sweet spot in terms of price/usability for a current gaming machine, and even then there's probably only very rare occassions the step up from 4GB to 8GB will be noticed.
tbh unless your doing memory intensive work (3d etc) you probably won't notice the difference, esp in games for now.
Although it'll be overkill (unless your doing work etc) 16 for eg won't cause any harm so go for it if you can. But remember adding more ram to rigs overclocked can sometimessss affect the overclock, meaning you simply set the overclock again!
was just looking for some RAM and there is so many different companies, but they all pretty much have the same spec, does it matter what RAM I go for, or does it come down to colour and wether it fits? Thanks
To be honest there isn't gonna be much noticeable difference between the major branded ram names as long as they all have the same spec. Go for anything from Corsair, Kingston or Gskill from OCUK and you can't really go wrong.
Most people will choose ram based on it's heatsink colour to match their case/colour theme, otherwise if you're not too bothered get the cheapest ones!
A mate of mine just upgraded from 8GB to 16GB and as noticed no major difference at all in is every day use of his PC gaming ect! Id say 8GB is the sweet spot, unless you can really make use of it.
