8 lanes of Memory versus 4 Lanes?

Does it make any differences if you use 8 lanes or 4?

Say for example you have 4 x 32GB of Ram. Will this run the same as 8 x 16GB given that everything else is the same?

Yes it will run as quad channel configuration.

Thanks, I don't think I explained myself very well.
Yes it will run as a quad channel, but if an oct (8) channel is being used is there less of a bottle neck or will is make no difference?
